RESUMO

The current study aimed to identify the impact of positive thinking on the anxiety of Coronavirus infection through the lockdown among UNRWA staff in Jordan. To achieve the objectives of the study, three measures were developed, the Positive Thinking Scale, the anxiety level of Coronavirus Infection Scale, and the lockdown Scale. A sample of (2036) employees responded to the measures. The results showed that the level of anxiety for COVID -19 infection among the sample was high, and statistically significant differences were found in the level of Covid-19 infection anxiety according to the sex variable for females, also statistically differences were found in the level of anxiety in COVID-19 infection according to age in favor of (31-40), and statistically differences for the social status in favor of married couples. Results also showed a direct negative impact of positive thinking variable on the level of anxiety associated with COVID-19 infection, and an effect of positive thinking on the level of anxiety during activating the lockdown. The study recommends designing training programs for employees to help them adapt to different circumstances and enable them to continue performing their assigned work. RESUMO

The multi-generational workforce presents challenges for organizations, as the needs and expectations of employees vary greatly between different age groups. To address this, organizations need to adapt their development and learning principles to better suit the changing workforce. The DDMT Teaching Model of Tsing Hua STEAM School, which integrates design thinking methodology, aims to address this challenge. DDMT stands for Discover, Define, Model & Modeling, and Transfer. The main aim of this study is to identify the organization development practices (OD) and gaps through interdisciplinary models such as DDMT and design thinking. In collaboration with a healthcare nursing home service provider, a proof of concept using the DDMT-DT model was conducted to understand the challenges in employment and retention of support employees between nursing homes under the healthcare organization. The paper highlights the rapid change in human experiences and mindsets in the work culture and the need for a design curriculum that is more relevant to the current and future workforce. The DDMT-DT approach can help organizations address these challenges by providing a framework for HR personnel to design training curricula that are more effective in addressing the issues of hiring and employee retention. By applying the DDMT-DT model, HR personnel can better understand the needs and motivations of the workforce and design training programs that are more relevant to their needs. The proof-of-concept research pilot project conducted with the healthcare nursing home service provider demonstrated the effectiveness of the DDMT-DT model in addressing the issues of hiring and employee retention. The project provides a valuable case study for other organizations looking to implement the DDMT-DT model in their HR practices. Overall, the paper highlights the importance of adapting HR practices to better suit the changing workforce. The DDMT-DT model provides a useful framework for organizations looking to improve their HR practices and better address the needs of their workforce.

The epidemic caused by the infection of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 omicron variant broke out in Shanghai in Mar. 2022. Omicron variant has characteristics such as strong concealment and rapid transmission, resulting in significant differences between the current round of epidemic and that in Wuhan. The number of infected patients (mainly asymptomatic infected patients) increased rapidly in a short term. Based on dynamic zero policy, shelter hospitals were set up in time in Shanghai to treat the patients. It is suggested that medical resources and patient characteristics should be taken into account in the independent cabin of a shelter hospital with more than 10 000 beds, and the clinical medical practice should be divided to 5 modes (universal education and management, community outpatient clinic, ward duty, emergency rescue, and temporary observation and transport) to optimize the allocation of medical resources, so as to further enhance the treatment capacity and efficiency of shelter hospitals.Copyright © 2022, Second Military Medical University Press. This article presents an exploratory research, with a qualitative approach, on the use of (un)plugged activities to teach computing and mathematic concepts during the social isolation period imposed by the Covid-19 pandemic. The objective of this research was to analyze the use of such activities as extra resources in the context of remote education to teach computational thinking and mathematics skills to 6-to-9-year-old children. RESUMO

The COVID-19 pandemic has transformed the ways of teaching and learning mathematics in high school, leading to the implementation of new teaching strategies aimed at achieving meaningful learning in the area of mathematics, with the mediation of digital technology and other pedagogical resources of the 21st century. The objective of this work is to analyze and explain the incidence of critical and computational thinking in the learning of mathematical concepts and procedures in secondary school students. The research approach is mixed, combining qualitative and quantitative sources of information and perspectives of analysis;the design is non -experimental;the data collection instruments are: Likert-type questionnaire and cognitive test;the data analysis is carried out by means of descriptive statistics. The results of the work show a sustained development of critical and computational thinking in the students during the mathematics learning activities, expressed in the fluency in the handling of concepts and logical procedures in problem solving;statistically, there is a correlation between the level of learning achieved and the development of critical and computational thinking of 0.545 and 0.823, respectively. It is concluded that the computational and critical thinking developed by secondary school students significantly influences learning and the development of mathematical competencies, with implications in the level of satisfaction with their academic and personal achievements.

'You do not know what you will find, you may set out to find one thing and end up discovering something entirely different'-Alexander Fleming As the pace at which medicine is advancing continues to accelerate, haematologists will increasingly find themselves practising unfamiliar medicine and using novel treatments. Whilst most scientific breakthroughs hopefully lead to an overall improvement in quality of life and prognosis, it is imperative that enough attention is paid to the shortcomings of new treatments and adverse events. The recent COVID-19 pandemic is a stark reminder of the cyclical nature of history and the need for healthcare professionals to utilise lessons learnt by our predecessors. Fleming and the discovery of penicillin highlights how mistakes in practice can sometimes lead to unexpected but useful revelations. The use of thalidomide as a treatment for hyperemesis gravidarum in the 1960s devastatingly lead to birth defects in thousands of people. Today, the repurposing of thalidomide, through lateral thinking and further study, has contributed to significant improvements in the prognosis of patients with Multiple Myeloma.1 Mortality following allogenic stem cell transplant continues to decrease overtime as knowledge surrounding complications and how to manage these improves, despite the fact that patients receiving stem cell transplants are becoming increasingly complex.2 These examples from history demonstrate the merit in studying adverse events and undesired outcomes. National reviews of patient health records indicate that errors currently occur in 10% of hospital admissions.3 With new treatments and more complex patients this will likely increase. It is estimated that voluntary reporting by healthcare professionals of such events only occurs 70% of the time.3 History should be used to guide essential changes in attitudes towards error reporting and help to create an ethos where 'failings' are more willingly recognised as a tool to guide improvement and innovation.

This study aimed to investigate the factors influencing the acceptance of mobile learning technology for 21st-century skills-based training among teachers in Saudi Arabia and Pakistan. This study adopted the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) model, which included constructs such as performance expectancy, effort expectancy, facilitating conditions, social influence, mobile self-efficacy, student self-efficacy, behavioural intention, 21st-century skills-based training, and creative thinking skills. A survey was conducted with 619 teachers from Saudi Arabia and Pakistan who participated in a two-week mobile learning-based training session. The data were analysed using structural equation modeling (SEM). The results show that all hypotheses were supported, indicating a positive relationship between the constructs and the acceptance and use of mobile learning technology for 21st-century skills-based training. This study's findings suggest that by emphasising factors such as performance expectancy, effort expectancy, facilitating conditions, social influence, mobile self-efficacy, and student self-efficacy when designing mobile learning interventions, teachers will be more likely to accept and use mobile learning technology for 21st-century skills-based training and contributed to sustainability by providing increased access to quality education.

This unprecedented time of the COVID-19 outbreak challenged the status-quo whether it is on business operation, political leadership, scientific capability, engineering implementation, data analysis, and strategic thinking, in terms of resiliency, agility, and innovativeness. Due to some identified constraints, while addressing the issue of global health, human ingenuity has proven again that in times of crisis, it is our best asset. Constraints like limited testing capacity and lack of real-time information regarding the spread of the virus, are the highest priority in the mitigation process, aside from the development of vaccines and the pushing through of vaccination programs. Using the available Chest X-Ray Images dataset and an AI-Computer Vision Technique called Convolutional Neural Network, features of the images were extracted and classified as COVID-19 positive or not. This paper proposes the usage of the 18-layer Residual Neural Network (ResNet-18) as an architecture instead of other ResNet with a higher number of layers. The researcher achieves the highest validation accuracy of 99.26%. Moving forward, using this lower number of layers in training a model classifier, resolves the issue of device constraints such as storage capacity and computing resources while still assuring highly accurate outputs. © 2022 IEEE.

One of the fundamental objectives of higher education is to prepare students to think analytically in order to develop and create knowledge, thus going beyond receiving information and building simple knowledge. That is why higher education must adapt its teaching and learning process to cultivate critical thinking of students. In order for academia to ensure the effectiveness of the development of critical thinking skills, student perceptions cannot be neglected, given that they are the ultimate receptors. In addition, investigating students' perceptions of critical thinking skills could guide future training methods that promote their development. The purpose of this research is to explore students' attitudes and beliefs regarding critical thinking skills, as well as aspects of their development in academia and their transfer to other contexts. The study is conducted at the Dunarea de Jos University of Galaţi and uses the questionnaire survey method to assess students' perceptions of critical thinking, from several perspectives: the level of knowledge on critical thinking skills, strategies for learning critical thinking skills, the qualities of a critical thinker, the way students relate to the COVID 19 pandemic and fake news. To obtain the necessary data, the questionnaire was distributed through Microsoft Forms and subsequently analyzed to describe students' views on critical thinking. A sample of 101 students from specializations in the field of socio-humanities completed this survey. The results of the study showed that students invoke the need to overcome difficulties in developing critical thinking skills by: training teachers to use critical thinking in the classroom;including and practicing critical thinking skills in applied activities at courses and seminars;applying debates and discussions in the classroom as teaching and learning strategies;translating the theories learned in courses into different case studies;use of training skills, questionnaires, homework;participation in group projects in a collaborative environment. Submission content Introduction: This is a story about the day I wheeled a patient outside. I know, it sounds somewhat underwhelming. But little did I know that this short trip down a hospital corridor and beyond the entrance foyer would mark a profound shift in perspective both for me and my patient, which I hope will influence me for the rest of my career. Main Body: "Paul" was in his 50s and severely afflicted by COVID-19, resulting in a protracted ICU admission with a slow and arduous ventilator wean. Throughout his time on the unit, Paul had seen no daylight;no view of the outside world. He was struggling to make progress and was becoming exasperated. His deteriorating mood in turn affected his sleep, which further undermined his progress. Due to COVID-19, visiting was not permitted and Paul's cuffed tracheostomy meant that he couldn't speak to his family. One day, witnessing Paul's psychological decline, I asked him if he fancied a trip outside. Despite initial reluctance, he eventually gave in to some gentle persuasion from the staff nurse, with whom he had developed a close bond. So there we went;Paul, his nurse and me. And as we wheeled his bed through the door into open air, Paul's whole demeanour suddenly changed. He appeared as though the weight of the world had been lifted from his shoulders and his face lit up with awe, a tear emerging in the corner of his eye. In that moment he rediscovered life. Not as a hospital patient, but as a person. Watching the world go by, he remembered what it was like to be a member of the human race, not the subject of endless tests and treatments. He tasted freedom. Conclusion(s): Awakened by his experience of the forgotten outside world, when we eventually returned to the ICU Paul was an entirely different man. To Paul, the trip outside symbolised progress. After weeks of frustration and despair, he finally had a purpose;a motivation to get better. Meanwhile, I was having my own quiet realisation. I now understood what it truly meant to deliver holistic care. It can become all too easy to focus on the clinical aspects;to obsess about the numbers. But in fact, often what matter most to patients are the 'little things', to which no amount of medication is the solution. I now try to consider during my daily review: what matters to this patient? How are they feeling? What are they thinking? What else can I do to help their psychological recovery? And as for me personally? Having witnessed Paul's reaction to the outside world, I suddenly became aware of how little attention I normally pay to the world around me. How little I appreciate the simple ability to walk outside, and the fundamental things we take for granted. Now, when I'm feeling annoyed or frustrated about something trivial, I stop and think of Paul. I then thank my lucky stars for what I have to be grateful for. Ultrasound Ninja.

Using insights from the changes made to a workshop developed before, but occurring after the pandemic, I describe the usefulness of design thinking activities and approaches to education in the post-COVID teaching era. I argue that design thinking techniques help build awareness around tolerance for ambiguity as an opportunity to inspire creative teaching solutions. This transferable skill is important for our students as soon-to-be graduates, and for faculty looking to build resilience in this uncertain time. The COVID-19 pandemic and the subsequent lockdown of cities have led to the rapid growth of online food delivery (OFD). Moreover, there are concerns that OFD platforms may impose offers on users in order to continue to increase their market share, leading to numerous environmental issues such as overconsumption and a significant increase in plastic packaging waste. Most studies have focused on the environmental impacts associated with food packaging and have been mostly limited to China. However, less research has been carried out on the overall CO2 emissions of an OFD order including food. In this study, the CO2 emissions of an OFD order were assessed by considering the production, distribution, consumption and disposal of the ingredients, based on lifecycle thinking and existing secondary data, for three representative food groups (Western food, Japanese food and Chinese food) in Japan. This study found that the food production of an OFD order accounts for more than 70% of the CO2 emissions of the entire process, especially food ingredient production. Policy support and initiatives such as OFD platforms being able to serve different quantities of food based on actual consumer demand to avoid food waste, as well as changes in delivery methods, would help reduce the CO2 emissions of OFD. © 2023 by the authors.

Despite the severe social, health, political and economic impacts of the outbreak of Covid-19 on Palestinians, we contend that one positive aspect of this pandemic is that it has revealed the perils and shortcomings of the teacher-centered, traditional education which colonizes students' minds, compromises their analytical abilities and, paradoxically, places them in a system of oppression which audits their ideas, limits their freedoms, and curtails their creativity. While Israeli occupation has proven to be an obstacle in the face of the Palestinian government's attempt to combat and contain the Corona crisis, on-line education, the sole arena that escapes this colonial system, has forced many instructors to give up their domination over the process of education and to create a more collaborative atmosphere of education that is based on dialogue, research and flexibility of the curriculum content. This study is designed to gauge English literature students' responses to this mode of digital learning. We interviewed a hundred students from six English literature programs between March and August, 2020. Thus, through critically examining students' answers, and by drawing on Freire's concepts of banking education, consciousness and dialogue, we propose that online education is an important step towards the decolonization of education and a call for a paradigm shift on the account that the existing paradigm of traditional education is stifling students' creativity and critical thinking.

Statistics is an important component of the knowledge base for health care professionals. In this essay, it is argued that statistical knowledge for teaching (SKT) should be considered an important component of their preparation as well. Health care professionals often must help others understand the statistical basis for recommendations they make. A COVID-19 press briefing is used to illustrate the need for SKT when making high-stakes recommendations related to public health. It is conjectured that efforts to educate the public during the press briefing would have been enhanced if the presenters had deeper knowledge of the general public's common statistical thinking patterns, the typical statistics curriculum experienced by members of their audience, and contemporary tools for teaching statistics. The importance of such knowledge to support smaller-scale individual interactions is also discussed. A call for SKT-centered partnerships between educational researchers and medical researchers is made;such partnerships could be mutually beneficial to the development of both fields and to society at large.

The main purpose of the study is to determine the principal ways of forming creative thinking among lawyers in their practice in modern conditions of development under the influence of COVID-19 pandemic. The importance of studying creative thinking and its formation is determined because the study of this problem creates the basis for the formation of a psychological attitude towards the creative development of a personality, which will be able to effectively solve non-standard problems of legal science and practice. The leading direction of training a future lawyer is the disclosure and activation of creative potential. In this process, focus on the attitudinal sphere of the personality is because it determines the activation of professional creativity and contributes to the disclosure of the creative potential of a specialist. As a result of the study and the application of the proposed methodology, the main stages were identified to promote the development of creative potential and thinking among lawyers in modern conditions of development, considering the impact of COVID-19 pandemic. The proposed research results may have a practical aspect of implementation in the activities of a modern lawyer.

This editorial is a response to the recent COVID-19 pandemic and underlines the valuable role that critical social science approaches to risk and uncertainty can play in helping us understand how risk is being understood and mitigated. Drawing on Heyman's approach to understanding risk as a configuration of probabilistic knowledge, time-framing, categories and values, I explore COVID-19 risk in relation to each of these features while also emphasising how different features stabilise one another. I suggest lines of inquiry into each of these features and their interrelatedness. I then move to present some important insights from the work of Mary Douglas which are especially germane to studying the risk of COVID-19 and, again, I raise possibilities for future research. Emphasising the centrality of ritual to Douglas's theory, I develop these considerations to encourage an exploration of magic and magical thinking, alongside rational approaches to COVID-19 risk.

This chapter aims to explore the actor-for-actor (A4A) logic supporting recent changes occurred within higher education institutions (HE), in light of the changes brought about by the recent digital revolution underway, partly accelerated by the recent Pandemic of COVID-19. The work starts from an analysis of recent advances in the literature on the theme of relationships between actors, and on a possible contribution coming from a systems perspective to identify what are the distinctive elements of a digital re-configuration of HE as inspired by A4A. The key elements of A4A are defined herein and applied to the new HE value proposal with evidence of aspects related to contents, conditions, opportunities, fulfilment, embeddedness, exchanges, self-feeding development. Universities worldwide are increasingly investing in academic innovation centers that are designed to encourage their students to pursue careers focused on innovation and technology. This chapter explores the educational opportunities of these academic innovation centers during crisis situations by documenting how an academic innovation center at Florida State University - the Innovation Hub - was able to encourage university students to engage in creative problem solving through design thinking, emerging technologies, and experiential learning during the COVID-19 pandemic. The results of these efforts demonstrate that academic innovation centers, during times of global crisis, have a unique opportunity to lead by example, enhancing their educational impact by connecting students directly with real-world challenges as creative problem solvers with the power to improve their communities. © Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2021. The COVID-19 pandemic has led to rapid change, unprecedented in higher education. One such change has been the almost complete shift to online assessment. The simultaneous employment of online assessment and proctoring has not enjoyed the rigorous academic debate and research traditionally associated with such shifts in academia. This engagement is essential and this article aims to discuss aspects of social justice, ethics and the validity of digital proctoring to the burgeoning debate. Digital proctoring is a lucrative industry (Coghlan Miller & Paterson, 2021), notwithstanding the admitted opportunities for cheating, irrespective of the intensity of overwatch. Digital proctoring is marketed and has become entangled with issues of institutional reputation and the legitimacy of qualifications. The student seems to be a secondary consideration compared to the technocratic digital proctoring arena. However, the introduction of online assessment, specifically with digital proctoring, impacts the assessment's validity by introducing intervening variables into the process. The drive to detect and prevent online cheating has led to algorithmic proliferation. This technologically driven approach has embedded social injustice and questionable ethics and validity into the assessment systems. This article examines the social justice, ethical and validity issues around technological proctoring under the grouped themes: Emotional factors;Racial and/or skin colour;Digital literacy and Technology;and Disability. However, the COVID-19 pandemicdriven shifts have provided the unprecedented opportunity to elevate assessment from recall to critical thinking and applicationbased assessment. An opportunity to ensure that our assessment is valid, assesses higher-order learning, and truly evaluates the concepts we wish to assess.
